7-Year-Old Gives Babysitter Personal Prom After School Cancels Due to COVID-19

A 7-year-old in North Carolina gifted his babysitter a personal prom after her senior prom was canceled due to COVID-19 closures of schools for the remainder of the year.

Becky Chapman was pleasantly surprised to find that the boy she had babysat for over a year, Curtis Rogers, had planned her a prom of her own. For the first time after a two month separation, Chapman and Rogers reunited at a personalized prom party that was organized with thoughtful personalized touches.

ABC 11 spoke with Rogers, who says his nanny Chapman is “one of the best people I’ve know.” Rogers greeted Chapman with a pool noodle to keep social distancing, and had set up an outdoor area for the prom.

“I planned it out because Rachel probably wanted to see me a lot,” says Rogers referring to the two months they didn’t see each other because of lockdown orders.

Although upset at the fact that she wasn’t wearing her prom dress with her senior class, Chapman was grateful for this kind gesture. Rogers went above and beyond to make sure she had her favorite foods to eat and songs to dance to, even six feet away.

“I was kind of like bummed putting my dress on because I was sad; I don’t get to wear it to my senior prom,” Chapman said. “After leaving it and having that time with him because it was the first time I had seen him in two months, it was like, really fun, and I’m really glad that he did that.”

Rogers mother Elissa noted to local media how hard her son worked to make this a special event for his nanny.

“He was very excited and wanted to make sure everything was just right and get his suit on and pick out his bowtie that matched her dress,” she said. “It was really cute. He was really excited for it to start and make sure he was ready to impress her,” Elissa recalled. “Rachel is one of our favorite people and she also helps around the house a lot.”
