A Greta Thurnberg Speech left 7-year-olds fearing for their lives after their school showed them the teen climate activist’s presentation in class.
A class of seven-and-eight-year-olds were shown Thurnberg’s famous UN Climate Action Summit speech at the library of Elmbank Junior Middle Academy, Etobicoke.
In the passionate speech Thurnberg famously said: “People are suffering. People are dying. Entire ecosystems are collapsing.
“We are in the beginning of a mass extinction and all you can talk about is money and fairytales of eternal economic growth. How dare you!”
After Greta’s five-minute speech, a large carbon clock was displayed on the projector screen, counting down from eight years — the estimated amount of time it will take to emit enough carbon to warm the world by 1.5 degrees Celsius
An eight-year-old girl, Joylaea Blazevic, came home terrified at the prospect of only having another eight years to live.
During the presentation at least one pupil was heard to have shouted, “I don’t wanna die!”
The little girl’s mother, Lejla Blazevic, told the National Post that the speech had left her daughter and her daughter’s classmates confused and horrified, according to Life Site News.
Looking back on her daughter’s befuddlement, Lejla said: “She’s like, ‘Mommy, they said that we’re going to die in eight years.’”
“They were terrified with the information,” she added.
Lejla also confirmed that her daughter remembers somebody yelling, “I don’t wanna die.”
A school board spokesperson dismissed the fear expressed by some pupils.
According National Post:
…Ryan Bird said it was one student who made the remark during the presentation, and the teacher immediately told the class that wasn’t true. The teacher later followed up with the child and his parents to make sure everything was OK, Bird said.
“We were assured from the family that indeed he was just joking,” Bird said.
Lejla went onto remark that her daughter took the alarming message of the speech to heart.
