President Donald Trump delivered perhaps the most religious and overtly Christian speech of his political career Friday at the March For Life in Washington, D.C. Trump appealed to God frequently in his remarks at the pro-life event, and highlighted his policy credentials as an anti-abortion crusader.
“One life changes the world,” Trump stated, noting that he informed Congress he would veto any policies that embolden the “destruction of human life.” While critics point to the continued funding for Planned Parenthood in the Washington budget — a thorn in Trump’s side — his policy wins on the abortion issue are also demonstrable.
“We are preserving faith-based adoption…We have confirmed 187 federal judges who apply the Constitution as written, including two phenomenal Supreme Court justices, Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh. We are protecting pro-life students’ right to free speech on college campuses,” Trump stated, noting that universities are held financially liable for censoring pro-life opinions. The president has also demanded that Congress “pass legislation prohibiting late-term abortion of children who can feel pain in their mother’s womb.”
Trump gave a special shout out to the Little Sisters of the Poor, and stressed that We declare that mothers are heroes…Because of you, our country has been blessed with amazing souls who have changed the course of human history.”
“Global bureaucrats have no business attacking the sovereignty of nations” that protect life, Trump said.
“Unborn children have never had a stronger defender in the White House. And as the Bible tells us, each person is wonderfully made.”
“Sadly, the far left is actively working to erase our God-given rights…and silence Americans who believe in the sanctity of life. They are coming after me because I am fighting for you…We will win, because we know how to win.”
Trump noted how top Democrats in Congress support taxpayer-funded abortions up to the moment of birth, and directed special ire at Virginia Democrat governor Ralph Northam, who has spoken of the viability of infanticide.
“We love the Commonwealth of Virginia, but what is going on in Virginia? What is going on?,” Trump sid.
“Every life brings joy into this world…Every person is worth protecting.”
“It’s so great to represent you. I love you all,” Trump said, and it was clear he means it.
